In 2006, I was just starting to take photography seriously and thoughtfully. As a member of a small community of photographers who were trying to be more active, I took part in a few photo contests. Each month, a theme was chosen, and the participants had to produce an original photo that fit within that theme. This is how, for the theme Le Regard (The Gaze), I came up with the following proposal after a deep reflection:
It was generally well received, as I finished second in that contest.
To give a bit of context about the photoshoot, I was working in a company with rather large premises, including a gigantic atrium. I had the idea to use a communal area on the ground floor to create several compositions by arranging chairs, a table, and a rug in a way that represented ideas or concepts. The photos were taken from a walkway on the second floor.
But from my perspective, and considering the first one that inspired this series, it’s this photo that I find particularly successful.
